Last week we held our 27^th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Rebel Creek Golf Course in Petersburg, ON. This annual tournament usually takes place in June, however as with many other events this year, we had to reschedule to abide by public health regulations.  We were thankful we could still hold this event with everyone’s safety in mind on a beautiful, sunny day last week. Although we were only permitted to have 100 golfers participate, we were still able to raise $29,000 for our local charities: Aldaview Services, Wilmot Family Resource Centre and Interfaith Counselling Centre. Since the tournament debuted in 1994, $465,000 has been raised! “This tournament used to just be a tournament for New Hamburg employees where each employee would reserve a spot and sometimes pay on the day of the tournament.” says Wendell Erb, Erb’s President and CEO, “Inevitably we always had no shows and we would be left holding the bag at registration. We (Greg Roth, Erb’s Sr. Director of Logistics, and I) decided to increase the registration fee to cover this possibility and donate the excess to charity. Over the years the popularity of the tournament grew, and it has become a significant revenue provider for the local charities supported.” The event is now attended by Erb employees, suppliers and business partners. This year the format of the tournament was a little different from past events. Instead of the usual early start and sit-down dinner, golfers were greeted with gift bags and face masks at a drive-thru registration before getting into their golf carts equipped with hand sanitizers and plexiglass dividers. Throughout the course they were treated to six different food stations graciously sponsored by Erb suppliers and business partners. The course also had 18 hole sponsors where winners were awarded trophies. Although Erb Transport has been operating for over 60 years, we have never wavered on our commitment to give back to our local communities. We are very proud to host such a great event that is well attended, enjoyable and supports our local Wilmot community.
