DON’T BE SPOOKED BY SUGAR THIS HALLOWEEN

Halloween is just around the corner, and one of the best things about this holiday is, of course, the candies. Children love them; adults love them; everyone loves them. However, it is important to keep in mind that we need to enjoy our treats in moderation for the sake of our physical well-being. Especially for professional truck drivers who are on the road a majority of the time, it is critical to remain fit and healthy. Remember, that does not mean you must eliminate sugar completely from your life. There are ways you can still celebrate Halloween to its fullest and maintain your balance.

Make healthier substitutes

Instead of stocking up all of your cupboards with candies, try creating fun Halloween treats using healthy and natural ingredients. For example, banana ghosts, carrot witch fingers, ghost fruit kabobs, etc. can be delicious spooky treats. This will also set a good habit for your kids and teach them about being mindful of their food consumption.

Stay active

Halloween can be a fun and adventure-filled occasion. You can make trick-or-treating a family activity by walking with your kids from house to house instead of driving, setting a goal of how many streets you are going to visit, or dividing into teams and competing to see who knocks on the most doors. This way, not only will you get your steps in, you will also have a pleasant bonding experience with your loved ones. In addition, if you are looking for a spine-chilling activity that burns more calories, try visiting a haunted house or going on a haunted trail.

Fill up on real food first

To avoid a sugar binge, fill yourself up during your main meals first. This applies to both you and your little ones. Having a healthy and filling meal before going trick-or-treating can reduce your children’s cravings. At the same time, you will also feel less tempted to munch on Halloween goodies.

Watch out for spooky drinks

Cutting back on sugar also includes pop, sodas and sweetened beverages. Stick to water, tea, milk or real juice because it can be easy to give in to your cravings. When in doubt, try to snack on fruits rich in water and natural sugar like oranges, grapes and melons to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Enjoy in moderation

The most important thing is you should not deprive yourself of things that bring you joy and make the day meaningful. Nonetheless, you should still be conscious about your sugar intake to avoid stomach aches or reactive hypoglycemia, also known as sugar crash. We are all humans and Halloween is a day that can throw most of us off our clean diets. And that’s OK. The most important thing that we need to keep in mind is to enjoy our treats without making them a staple.

Great post!
Even as adults the temptation to indulge in treats is hard to resist and yes we should do some form of exercise everyday even just going for a 30 minute walk a lot of good
