These days, recycling is a large, and necessary, part of our society. Everyone knows the benefits and how-to’s of recycling, yet not everyone knows about the benefits of upcycling. Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, means taking an old product and turning it into something new and usable. Similar to recycling, the benefits of upcycling are endless, but here are a few important ones:
• Lessens landfill waste
• Less greenhouse emissions
• Cleaner waterways
• Less need to produce new materials
Kevin Becker, the Fleet Maintenance Manager here in Baden, recently upcycled one of our old trailers like we’ve never seen before! “My brother in law has some property and the original idea was to get a container trailer and spray foam it, but then I thought of the insulated Erb trailer instead”, Kevin explained to me. From this idea, Kevin’s live-in Erb trailer was born.
Kevin took one of our large, insulated Erb trailers and made it his home away from home! “You wouldn’t think so, but it’s pretty warm in there!” Kevin told me. The trailer is insulated, warm, spacious, and even a little homey! “I mean, it has hardwood floors! What more could you want!”
Erb is so proud to see one of our own employees express creativity, motivation, and confidence to take on this project! Not only did Kevin make himself one of the most unique things we’ve ever seen, he also benefited the environment in more ways than one.
Kevin’s idea has already inspired so many others to begin upcycling in their everyday lives! Most unexpected household objects can be upcycled into useful products!
