Mother’s Day is just around the corner. This is a day we usually spend together with traditional big brunches and spa retreats to honour and celebrate moms everywhere, because after all, they are very special people. Of course, like many holidays so far this year, many will spend this day apart as we maintain social distancing to keep everyone healthy and safe. But just because we cannot be together, does not mean it’s cancelled. In fact, the sentiment behind the holiday can be more meaningful than ever before.

We have some creative ways to help you celebrate your mom and have fun together even if you are apart! Try one of these ideas to make it a truly memorable Mother’s Day that you will never forget:

Virtual dinner date

Since meeting at a restaurant isn’t possible this Mother’s Day, try having a virtual dinner party with mom. There are plenty of apps available, check out our long weekend blog (here) for a list of the apps you can use to set up a dinner date. You can video chat while eating or even cook the whole meal together. Cheers!

Create a photo slideshow

Chances are, Mom has been missing you more than you have been missing her. Put together a photo slideshow of what you have been up to. Include photos of the kids, pets and house renovations to keep her in the loop of what you have been doing during your quarantine days. You can also include photos from the past to reminisce and remember special occasions and holiday trips from the past, this is guaranteed to bring a smile to her face.

Make a DIY gift basket

This is a great opportunity to treat your mom with a “spa retreat!” Fill a basket was some bath salts, nail polish, and her favourite scented candle and leave it on her porch. If you can’t make one or drop it off, there are plenty of stores online that will deliver right to her door.

Send a video message

If you can’t wish your mom a Happy Mother’s Day in person, you can always send a video message to make her day. There are many apps that can help you record and piece video clips together from siblings to create a special compilation of love for mom.

Decorate her front door

If you can drive by your mom’s house, decorate her front porch or door with some beautiful flowers or a wreath to make her day. The spring flowers are blooming, time to get crafty.

Watch a movie or show online

If mom loves a good sentimental show or movie, get your pjs on, grab a cup of tea and plan a date to press the start button at the same time. You can also watch via Netflix Party for synchronized video and chat capability.

Send an eCard or eGiftcard

Save yourself a trip to the store (and a lot of anxiety) and send an electronic greeting card. There are many virtual card stores online which allow you to customize designs and send directly to her email. You can also purchase and send electronic gift cards through many retailers so she can pick out a special gift online.

Just because we may not be able to show our love in person, doesn’t mean we can’t show our appreciation in other ways. Let’s make this Mother’s Day extra special and memorable. To all the amazing moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day!
