Living on the road, out of your truck, and at the occasional truck stop can pose a few challenges; including trying to maintain a healthy diet. This task can seem nearly impossible. This week, we’ve asked ourselves one question: is it possible to eat healthy on the road? We found that the answer is YES! We have also, however, found that it is not an easy task. To help you during your next overnight run, we’ve made a list of the healthiest snacks you can find at your daily truck stops.
Mixed Nuts: One cup of oil roasted mixed nuts is generally around 800 calories. Okay, we know what you’re thinking. Although this may seem high, mixed nuts also offer a ton of nutrients and vitamins! One package of mixed nuts contains, on average, 76% magnesium, 25% vitamin B6, 19% iron, and 15% calcium. These packages are absolutely packed with benefits!
Yogurt: A one ounce container of plain yogurt is generally filled with 33% protein. Yogurt is also overflowing with probiotics, which are largely beneficial for your overall health. Probiotics promote a healthy digestive tract, and enhance the health of your immune system. Who knew?!
Granola and Protein Bars: Before you ask, the answer is no. Chocolate bars are not included. Granola bars and protein bars are both great snacks to tide you over until you reach the next rest stop or restaurant, and they can taste great too! Simply look for the bar that contains the least amount of sugar, and you should be good to go.
Veggie Chips: Okay, so this is a stretch. Usually, anything involving “chips” may not be the healthiest option. However, they aren’t the unhealthiest option, either! If you’re looking for something to satisfy your salty craving while not going completely off track, these are for you!
The biggest jug of water you can find: The benefits of drinking water are endless. It flushes out toxins, boosts your immune system, increases energy, relieves fatigue, and so much more! Find the largest container of water you can, and drink up!
