WOMEN’S DAY 2019

March is International Women’s Month, and today, March 8, is International Women’s Day. First introduced in 1911, this day celebrates women across the globe and recognizes those who have forged the path we walk on today. This year, the Women’s Day theme is Balance for Better. Achieving a more gender-balanced world is attainable, and starts with each one of us.

In the trucking industry, it is crucial that we recognize initiatives such as International Women’s Day and carry these themes and topics with us throughout the year. Erb Transport heavily encourages women to consider transportation as not only a job, but a life-long career. The opportunities that exist in this industry are endless,  and demonstrating these opportunities to potential female employees is crucial to our success. We recognize gender diversity in the workplace as a necessary part of a healthy and well-rounded environment.

To ensure we stay informed on best practices and trends to successfully involve women in this industry, Erb attends the Women With Drive conference each year. This conference instills new-found motivation and inspiration in our employees. They return to the office with a visible sense of urgency, and a drive to change the lack of female representation. The summit discusses the benefits of women in this industry, and features women in positions of power as key note speakers.

According to TruckingHR, women in the trucking industry are…

  • 3% of truck drivers
  • 3% of mechanics, transport trailer technicians, and cargo workers
  • 11% of managerial staff
  • 25% of freight claims and safety, and loss prevention specialists
  • 18% of dispatchers
  • 13% of parts technicians

Supporting a more gender-balanced workforce is a commitment that Erb Transport is ready and willing to take on. It is crucial to the success of our workplace and our industry as a whole. Remember to show your appreciation and support to the women in your life today, and every other day of the year.

“Here’s to the strong women. May we know them, may we raise them, may we be them.”
