With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it is a great time to think about everything we have to be thankful for. Usually at Thanksgiving, many of us celebrate a meal together with family and friends, complete with turkey and pumpkin pie. This is a time to reflect and be with loved ones, and it’s also a time of year to give back to those in need of help.
THE CHALLENGE
There are many amazing organizations who perform important work to help their local communities. When COVID-19 first struck, there were new challenges faced by our food banks. There was a surge in demand and food became harder to source. Having children home from school put added pressures on families trying to make ends meet. Some children no longer had access to breakfast clubs and meal programs they relied on at school. Now, some families are still faced with these challenges, having kids home learning virtually instead of in the classroom. Our food banks exist to help families fill in the gaps during these tough times.
FEED ONTARIO
Over the past year, we were thankful for the opportunity to work with Feed Ontario. Feed Ontario aims to end poverty and hunger by securing fresh and healthy food sources and uniting food banks, industry partners and local communities in their fight to end hunger and poverty across Ontario. Erb Transport was privileged to offer logistics support and deliver much needed COVID-19 Emergency Food Boxes to food banks across the province. Over the past year, alongside Feed Ontario and other partners, we were able to help more than 522,000 people facing hunger et deliver 4.7 million meals. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Feed Ontario and to bring food to families’ tables around Ontario.” – Phil McQuillan, Erb Account Manager.
GIVE BACK
This is just one of the many outreach initiatives Erb Transport participated in this year. We are truly proud to be part of so many great initiatives and programs happening in our communities. Giving back has remained a priority for the Erb Group since 1959. Our founder, Vernon Erb, always looked out for his community and shared his good fortune with others and we are honoured to carry on the tradition and help our communities and neighbours. We encourage you to give back this Thanksgiving. Bring a few items to your local food bank or check out Feed Ontario to find out how you can donate or start a local fundraiser. Let’s work together to ensure our neighbours do not go hungry. A little help can go a long way.
