The many facets of the transportation industry
“Trucking” is a term that is often used to describe this great industry and the truck drivers who sustain it. Sometimes, however, this term can be used to generalize the transportation industry, inadvertently creating some significant, and common, misconceptions. The term “trucking” might imply that this industry only provides careers in truck driving. Now, absolutely, truck driving is a massive part of this industry. It is, perhaps, the largest part of this industry; but it is not the only part.
The transportation industry is comprised of as much behind-the-scenes work as any other industry this size. Erb Transport is made up of of hundreds of men and women all working towards one common goal, but doing so in different ways. To run this organization successfully, a few of the positions we require include:
- Dock workers
- Operations managers
- Human resources
- Admin teams
- Sales teams
- IT experts
This list is only the beginning; there are many other positions that exist within these sub-titles. These positions could appeal to introverts, extroverts, and anyone in between. Any job in an industry this large is crucial to our overall success. As they say, “it takes a village”!
Encouraging internal promotions is another focus for Erb Transport. In fact, some of our executive management team members were former truck drivers. Additionally, many of our most senior employees began their careers with us as a part time employee, eventually evolving into full time staff. Erb Transport continuously provides our employees with the opportunities to gain new skills and advance into new career paths. This may be the reason that many of our employees have been with this company for over a decade; there is always room to grow.
The career opportunities in this industry are endless, with constant opportunity for growth. Next time you’re job hunting, think back to this post; you may be pleasantly surprised!
